What We Know and Trust About the Bible

(Notes from a radio broadcast in 2020 – Pastor Robert Jeffress)

·         The original manuscripts of the Bible are inerrant, and inspired by God.

·         Subsequent versions can be considered the same.

·         The Bible tells the truth of our Father and Creator.

·         All writings are God-breathed instruction to the world and written by the Disciples.

·         There is only 1 lie in the Bible (Satan’s lie to Adam & Eve).

·         The New Testament has the same level of authority as the Old Testament.

·         The Bible is true and accurate because of the fulfilled prophecies.

·         Fulfilled prophecies are the evidence that makes the Bible unique; by comparison, the Quran and the Book of Mormon have no prophecies.

·         Bible stories are not fable or fiction; the fulfillment of God’s word will happen with absolute certainty.

·         The Bible gives authority to Pastors and Preachers (1 Timothy 5:18).

·         The New Testament makes 61 prophecies; studies have been done to determine the chances for 8 of the 61 to come true – the end result was that there is a zero chance for anything other than a Divine Creator if only 8 came true.  But 61 came true.

·         The Bible is full of themes compared to the Quran.

·         The Bible is full of prophecies compared to the Book of Mormon.

·         The Bible is full of symbolism pertaining to the redemption of the world.

·         The Bible is full of miracles.

·         A seismic shift in belief systems occurred with the early acceptance by Jews of the Christian Bible.

·         The Bible is trustworthy because of:

o    Archeological Evidence that has proven all the events in the Bible actually took place.

o    No name, person, or event in the Bible has ever been disproved.

o    There were no errors or contradictions in translation over the years, with the exception of minor mistakes – the majority of the Bible is accurate, but minor errors are recognized in the realization that comparisons were different in biblical times.

o    The Great Isaiah scroll was found, and had a 95% word-for-word confirmation when compared to various versions of translated Scripture; therefore the Bible was found truthful and accurate.

·         Unfortunately people have doubts due to suffering, unanswered prayer, disobedience to God’s word, and unexamined faith in times of testing.

·         The Bible tells us everything God wants us to know – It’s a perfect love letter to His children.

·         Those having a difficult time making a decision for Jesus really need to know the contents of the Bible in order to make a well-informed decision, because this is the most important decision of one’s life.  Your decision determines where you will spend eternity.

Tip:  We sometimes need help with bible interpretation, because it can be easy to take verses out of context.  And some chapters can seem illogical just by the way they are written.  One bible version that can assist with this is the Living Bible.  Check it out.  It paraphrases things for easier understanding and makes a great resource companion book to the version of the Bible you may already have.
