Understanding God’s Promises
When we understand God’s promises and receive them, then we can have confidence in Christianity—it means that when we trust in Him, we can live in peace and unity.
God has laid out His unconditional promises to us in the Bible:
1/ He gives us The Holy Spirit
We understand that we live in an evil world and that we can flourish every day when we trust in God and His Son Jesus as our Savior.
In John 14:16, Jesus promises us the Holy Spirit – “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.”
He is our traveling companion. He will never leave or forsake us.
2/ He will meet our daily needs
We are told in Matthew 6:25-33 not to be anxious about anything; God will provide. Worry does not add a single hour to our lives. Have faith. Don’t worry about food, water, and clothing. Your heavenly father knows you need all of it. But first seek His kingdom and His righteousness, and the rest will follow.
3/ He will answer our prayers
He answers the prayers of those who have eternal life (those who are faithful and obedient to God’s word). In 1 John 5:13-15, we can know we have eternal life when we ask for it. And with this confidence that we have toward Him, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
4/ He grants us wisdom to deal with our situations in life
His sovereign power helps us in every circumstance. We see things from God’s perspective when we have His wisdom. We do this by reading His word.
James 1:5 says “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”
5/ He rewards us for guarding our hearts and minds
Philippians 4:4-7 makes us aware that God separates us from anxiety so that we can live in peace. When we guard our hearts and minds, we rid ourselves of anxiety so that we can experience God’s peace in our hearts. Let God know your concerns, and pray with thanksgiving. “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Let your life count! Psalm 37:4 says that God gives us the desires of our hearts. Be delighted in serving and worshipping Him.
6/ He promises us healing in times of sickness
Psalm 103:1-3 – “Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.”
He heals people today! We all will die at some point, and healing applies to both our life and our death. God is the great Physician and healer on the day we die. Prayer helps us to stay in communication with Him during our lifetime.
7/ He gives us the gift of unconditional love
Romans 8:38-39 – “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus, our Lord.”
With Jesus, we have the gift of unconditional love in our lives. Nothing can separate us from God. This truth will never change.
8/ He gives us eternal security
John 10:27-30 says that nothing can alter your eternal security. “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”
Becoming a Christian means you possess the promise of Heaven! Are you going to claim this promise? Claim what is yours, because a promise from God is eternal and faithful and true.
Believing in His Promises
We flourish when we serve Him
All of us have the capacity to serve God. You can flourish! You can be fruitful! And you can be strong all the days of your life!
He gives us everything we need
Jesus is the source of our riches. He tells us in John 14:6 “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him.”
Receive Him and rely on His promises
Let your life count! With faith, you believe that Jesus is your Savior and you can turn to Him for help at any time. When you die as a Christian, you can be assured of your eternal home in Heaven.
Jesus tells us in John 14:1-3 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am, you may be also.”
